How To Spy & Find Your Competitors Most Popular…

When I started my marketing business last year, I really had no idea where to start when it came to content as it is such a VAST topic!

But what REALLY helped me was finding similar competitors to me as I could see their special offers, what their most popular piece of content was, and also the problems startups were being faced with just my studying the engagement.

SO this came in really handy!

How To Spy & Find Your Competitors Most Popular Content On Facebook

Go to your Facebook business page and click on insights.

Now Scroll down to the bottom of the screen until you see ‘Pages To Watch’ and click on add pages.

We can now simply add in any of our competitors! For this example, I’m using Virgin Startup. Now simply click watch page and that’s that!

Virgin startup will now be displayed in my watch pages section and I can even see their engagement and page likes.

But for me the BEST part is I simply click on their logo to see their most popular post for the week which is great to get content ideas and special offer tips!

Ok so hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

How To Get Major Brands To Retweet Your Product

The influencer world is definitely not a cheap one to tap into. Especially if you are a startup on a tight budget!

In the past, we have been lucky enough to have connected to a few celebrities who promoted our product for free – without the high-end agency fees of up to £5,000 for an Instagram post simply by cutting out the middleman and contacting them directly through Twitter.

But how can you reach out to brands?

We recently had some luck and had our product retweeted by a major influencer in our niche, directly to a very large audience base perfect for us. Was it down to us retweeting their content? Endless commenting on their posts? No.

We simply offered their followers a free gift.

For example, if my client was a co-working office and they wanted to have a boost in monthly signups, I would look to contact a large startup group based in their area of London and connect with them on Twitter.

I would then ask them if they would like to encourage readers to subscribe to their newsletters for a chance to win a free co-working day in our offices.

They loved the idea of offering their followers something that would actually come in handy and also to increase their engagement and it ended up giving us a few more sign ups!

So here are my simple steps that will help you on your way.

  • Find someone in your niche but not a direct competitor. Common sense here, if you are a florist, you would not approach another florist to offer to give away your flowers! Instead get in touch with a large bridal or event company in your area and ask them would their followers like a free bouquet or centerpiece in exchange for them retweeting it.

  • If you don’t get through at first, do not give up! There are many ways to connect with larger brands and I always found their Facebook pages were the easiest. Just ask them is there a contact in their marketing department you can pop an email too.

  • This works on Facebook and Instagram too!

  • Make sure you keep tabs on the winner, the likely hood is they will retweet their free gift and then you can comment on the post and thank them once again putting the focus on your brand.

  • Take a look at your target’s site. What are they currently promoting? Is it an Ebook? An event they want people to attend? An online course? Then approach them and mention that to help get people to sign up tp their online business course, you will give away a free consultancy.

Ok so very simple, you just need to spend a little time finding a brand with a worthwhile following in your niche.

How To Create A Media Pack

A media pack is a document containing information about your business, product or event. They are mainly used at events and for launches as a package of information for journalists to help them write their story. Unlike the traditional email, media packs create a more enjoyable viewing experience with sleek, sophisticated design.

So what are the key elements that should make up your media pack?

Introduce Your Business

This is meant to be an introduction of your business but AIMED at your target market rather than a general introduction so remember to aim your content at your niche. Inform the reader

  • Who you are
  • What the purpose is of your business
  • What are the benefits of using your products
  • How do your products differ from other competitors on the market?
  • Where are you located?

Mission Statement

This is the heart and soul of your company within one engaging paragraph. Differentiate yourself from your competitors and sound unique. For example, if I was purchasing a large amount of paper for printing, there are multiple companies to choose from. But a company that brands themselves as Eco-friendly and uses recycled paper would probably sway me above all others. As a guide, here are the 4 questions to create your mission statement.

  • How do we do it?
  • Whom do we do it for?
  • What value are we bringing?
  • What can we uniquely provide over all others?

Add Testimonials

Testimonials are an incredible marketing tool and add a sense of credibility to your website. Fantastic testimonials can be the deciding factor on whether the customer will go ahead and purchase from you. As guidance, try to answer the below 4 questions in your testimonials.

  • The problem the customer had
  • Other solutions they tried which failed
  • What solution YOU provided for them
  • The outcome

Services Offered & Prices

We could split this into 2 different sections but you have a limited amount of time to engage with the customer before they will stop reading your Media pack, roughly 20 seconds in fact! That’s why it’s so important to be as transparent as possible. Take a look at the questions below and try to answer them.

  • Has your product received great online reviews? Include the reviews next to your product/service – ‘As seen in’ etc.
  • Use power words to increase sales and make your sentences more punchy. Endorsed, Certified, Authentic etc.
  • Add facts about your product. Does your eyeshadows contain a higher pigment than what is currently available on the market but at an affordable price?
  • For pricing, ensure you have thoroughly researched the market and your competitor’s prices. Extortionate prices without an incredible product will just make your customers purchase elsewhere.

Processes & Contact Details

This is important information for the customer. We need to be as transparent as possible about how we will process their orders and include info like follow up and delivery times.

  • How long will your product take to deliver?
  • After they have purchased, what will happen next?
  • Will you contact the customer within 24 hours?
  • Do they download the product and is there a user guide?

For your contact details, we want more than just a phone number and address.

  • Are you on Linkedin?
  • Facebook and Twitter?
  • Do you have a Pinterest account?
  • What about your email address?

The Design

The design will quite simply make or break your product. The whole point of creating a media pack is a direct way of selling to your customers WITHOUT the conventional email. I use canva which have free media kit templates!

So here are just a few tips on to create a simple media pack and the information you should include. Once again, remember to write this for your target market, not to fit everyone!
