One thing that you will notice about people is that they are always more motivated if they are moving towards something as they want to reach the goal. Make sure that anything you set is realistic, and then add new goals when the current ones are achieved.

Let them know what you think of their work, tell them if you have higher expectations and want to get them doing new things. Communication between an employee and an employer is essential to ensure that expectations are set and managed.
