London Eye & The Sealife Centre

Living in London for the past 5 years you of thought I’d have most of the sites well covered……. but to be honest, I think most locals are reluctant to spend over £25 on a day out in the midst of the kids summer holidays……apart from me.

Situated next to Westminster bridge and just a short walk from the sealife centre, the London eye is the worlds largest observation wheel standing at over 135 metres. With tickets starting from £25 and upwards however, its hardly a family friendly affordable day out. So I settled for a walk underneath it instead!

The Sealife Centre

I admit, the sealife centre is usually packed to the brim throughout the summer holidays and I would advise visiting on a quieter weekday –  unless you are happy to be overun with prams and small children looking for Dory.

Entrance is £25 for an adult, but to be fair, it’s an extremely large building with a magnificent central tank, which has multiple viewing points as you descend around the building. The observation tunnel will be completely rammed and photo opportunities limited, unless you don’t mind the 6ft man in front being part of the picture.

I was completely unaware there was also a penguin observation enclosure. Personally I felt very sorry for the inhabitants. I couldn’t see any form of outdoor pen and the glass enclosure had a rather depressing glacier theme and blue lighting.

Moving on, a favourite for everyone was the a virtual reality screen and an empty pool where you could sit on the edge and look into the screen to view yourself with orcas and a polar bear and cub seemingly interacting with you.

Living with migraine associated vertigo

What a name….. for over a year I suffered from constant dizziness, exhaustion and anxiety to name but a few symptoms. I was diagnosed with labyrinthitus, then FINALLY 2 weeks ago I saw a neurologist who told me it was actually migraines. Janet Jackson has recently pushed this condition to the forefront as she suffers from it too and had to cancel her concerts in the US.

Here’s what I have learnt.

  • Not everyone has actually headaches, sometimes you will feel extremely dizzy and exhausted and not even realise you are going through an attack.
  • It tends to be more prevalent in women – My mum suffers from constant dizziness due to this too as well as my half sisters interestingly enough.
  • You look FINE! The harder part is you look fine, it’s not like you have anything to show for it, like a cast on a broken arm so it’s extremely hard to tell friends than your having a rough day and are more limited to what you can do.
  • Overdoing it will make it worse – True I find walking a lot and pushing myself to go out helps me feel less like a recluse but the next day I’ll expect to spend a good few hours in bed. And that’s not even a night out drinking!
  • You realise who your real friends are – I have literally stepped back from a few, our lifestyles are completely out of sync now and I just would rather avoid the drama and stress.
  • Mind over matter – Acting as normal as possible and carrying on through the dizzy days helps, Who wants to moan day in and day out they feel like crap? It WONT change anything other than make you feel worse.
  • Thoughts are things – I really believe that what you think about the most you will draw that to you. There have been weeks when I have thought positively about my situation, that I’m healing and I felt better. When I have a relapse and feel worse, if I worry about it and feel sorry for myself it takes longer to recover!
  • Changing your lifestyle is a MUST! I used to go out every weekend and really party hard so to speak lol, even though I’m 35 I wasn’t slowing down in the slightest. Age is just a number after all. But now I can manage a few hours before the tiredness kicks in and I know when to stop.

How To Create A Simple Media Pack

A media pack is used as a direct sales tool to target your chosen market and also for PR purposes. It will include all aspects of your business and should be seen like a resume for your site. Unlike the traditional email, media packs create a more enjoyable experience for readers with fantastic, sophisticated design. Simply put, would you rather read an email or a magazine?

So how do we go about creating a media pack and what information should I include? Let’s take a look below at a simple media pack format.

Introduce Your Business

Remember, you are trying to aim for your target market here, not just a general introduction. Inform the reader who you are, what the purpose if of your business and the benefits of using your products. How do your products differ from other competitors on the market? Where are you located?

Mission Statement

This is the heart and soul of your company within one engaging paragraph. For example, if I was purchasing a large amount of paper for printing, there are multiple companies to choose from. But one that is known for recycled paper and is environmentally friendly would probably sway me above all others. As a guide, here are the 4 questions to create your mission statement.

  • How do we do it?
  • Whom do we do it for?
  • What value are we bringing?
  • What can we uniquely provide over all others?

Add Testimonials

Testimonials are an incredible marketing tool and add a sense of credibility to your website. Fantastic testimonials can be the deciding factor on whether the customer will go ahead and purchase from you. As guidance, try to answer the below questions on your testimonial.

  • The problem the customer had
  • Other solutions they tried which failed
  • What solution YOU provided for them
  • The outcome

Services Offered & Prices

We could split this into 2 different sections but you have a limited amount of time to engage with the customer before they will stop reading your Media pack, roughly 20 seconds in fact! That’s why it’s so important to be as transparent as possible. Think about answering the below questions.

  • Has your product received great online reviews? Maybe it’s even been written about or is an award winning service like Designated PA? Include the reviews next to your product/service – ‘As seen in’ etc.
  • Use power words to increase sales and make your sentences more punchy. Endorsed, Certified, Authentic etc.
  • Add facts about your product. Does your printer use less cartridge ink but still has the same high quality finish as more expensive printers on the market?
  • For pricing, ensure you have thoroughly researched the market and your competitors prices. Extortionate prices without an incredible product will just make your customers purchase from a more developed brand offering cheaper prices.

Processes & Contact Details

Vital information for the customer, do you have specific processes set up? How long will your product take to deliver? After they have purchased, what will happen next? Will you contact the customer within 24 hours? Do they download the product and how is there a user guide?

For your contact details, we want more than just a phone number and address. Are you ion Linkedin? Facebook and Twitter? Do you have a Pinterest account? What about your email address?

The Design

The design will quite simply make or break your product. The whole point of creating a media pack is a direct way of selling to our customers WITHOUT the conventional email. Think of how eye-catching infographics are. In fact infographics are the most shared content on the internet and for good reason! As humans, 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual. To create your presentation, you can use Powerpoint, Photoshop or simply hire a designer.
