There is something incredibly calming about watching a sea turtle move through the water—completely at home in its environment, unhurried and free.
I wanted to capture a little of that feeling in this painting. The deep blue water surrounds the turtle with movement and light, while the colours and loose, expressive lines give the piece an almost dreamlike quality.
It is a painting about freedom, tranquillity and our connection with nature.
The story behind my paintings
I am a third-generation artist. My grandfather was an artist, and my great-grandfather painted while serving in the trenches of the Somme. Art has therefore always been part of my family and my life.
I trained at art school and now divide my time between London and Sweden.
After a long ten-year period of chronic illness and severe migraines, I eventually found my way back to painting. Being surrounded by nature became an important part of that journey, and it was the beauty and stillness of the natural world that inspired me to pick up my brushes again.
Painting has become a way for me to capture those moments when nature makes you stop and breathe.
Whether it is the Northern Lights over a Swedish winter landscape, the movement of the sea, or an animal quietly making its way through the water, I am interested in that feeling of peace and wonder that nature can give us.
This sea turtle is one of those moments.
