A weekend in Yorkshire! Saddleworth Moor
I’ve just come back from a weekend trip to Yorkshire, Huddersfield and Saddleworth Moor. We also visited the village of Holmfirth, home to the TV series ‘Last Of The Summer Wine’.Castle Hill – Huddersfield
Castle hill is an ancient monument overlooking Huddersfield. Here lies the remains of a late bronze age hillfort and a medieval village. The tower itself was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s reign and was completed in 1899.
Holmfirth – Last of the summer wine
Holmfirth is more well known for the long running series ‘last Of The Summer Wine’ that ran for over 30 years! Today you can visit the museum under the famous steps where Compos love interest Nora Batty frequently chased him off with a broom! The quaint village built from Yorkshire stone also has numerous tea rooms.
Saddleworth Moor
Saddleworth Moor is a windswept bleak place of stunning earthly beauty. These photos were taken overlooking the reservoir. It is a popular with families, Dog walkers and mountain bikers on weekends.
The moor has a dark history and became infamous in the 1960s due to Myra Hindley and Ian Bradys horrific crimes.
